Applications due to Magnet Programs Office by February 27th
Jacksonville, Fla. (Jan. 15, 2009) - Area youth had an opportunity to explore their future hopes and dreams when more than 10,000 parents and students attended the 19th annual Magnet Mania & More hosted by Duval County Public Schools at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds on Jan. 10.
For the first time, the event included informational workshops to help parents gain a better understanding of school choice options and programs available for the 2009-2010 school year as well as being able to apply online. The free expo was open to parents, children, family and friends of students in elementary, K-8, middle or high schools. Parents wishing to apply for the program of their choice must complete and return the application to the Magnet Programs Office at the Duval County Public Schools Administration building or apply online by Feb. 27.
Students also visited interactive, fun-filled booths from each school in the Magnet program to get more specific details and one-on-one insight from teachers and principals at each of the schools. "This year's participation in Magnet Mania & More was the best yet," said Angela C. Mack, magnet programs marketing and recruitment manager. "We are thrilled that so many parents and students attended to learn about all of the wonderful magnet and school choice programs offered in Duval County Public Schools."
