IB is a rigorous, internationally recognized pre-university course of study for highly motivated students. The curriculum is designed to promote intellectual and personal development. The emphasis on analysis and application of skills prepares IB students for success in higher education and employment. The aim of the program is to develop internationally-minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. Students wishing to apply to this program must meet the application eligibility criteria. The magnet lottery is not used for admission to this program.
Students who accept placement in the IB Program forfeit any other application submitted for the magnet lottery. Students who decline an IB invitation may still apply for other programs through the magnet lottery. Students who accept placement in an IB program cannot transfer to the college prep program. If a student wishes to exit the IB program, the student must return to the attendance area school. The only exception to this policy is students who were eligible for program continuity from a feeder middle school program.
Utilization of Magnet Schools
The school district strives to have the utilization of all schools between 85% and 105% of their current capacity. The 2011-2012 Utilization of each magnet school helps determine the number of new magnet openings a school may offer for the 2012-2013 magnet lottery.
