Choosing A Program Theme

Magnet programs offer a wide variety of fascinating magnet themes. We suggest you focus on the programs your student may be interested in rather than on specific schools.

This chart shows which schools and programs are part of a complete theme-stream and which are not. Please note that you will need to reapply to follow these themes from one school level to the next.

You may also download a PDF of the Theme Stream Chart

You can read more about the themes and the individual schools that offer them in the Elementary, K-8, Middle School and High School sections of the Website. This will help you decide which schools to apply to when seeking admission to the magnet program.

Many magnet programs are designed to allow students to start a particular theme in elementary school and "stream" on through middle and high school, if desired. Other programs start in middle school and continue at the high school level.

This ability to move from one school level to the next is called "program continuity." Note that some schools feature stand-alone magnet programs that exist at only one school level.
